* Veyron Profitable by 2010

Since its introduction in 2005, the Bugatti Veyron hasn't made a dime for corporate parent Volkswagen. The original development costs were so high that even with a million dollar price tag, the Veyron sales weren't enough to put the project into the black. According to an interview with Bugatti CEO Dr. Franz-Josef Paefgen in the Netherlands' AutoTelegraaf, Bug will turn a profit in those most magical of years, 2010. That's when they'll finally sell enough of the quad-turbo meisterwerk to pay for the program. As for another model, who needs another model? But seriously, a replacement for the Veyron will supposedly arrive in 2011 or 2012– soon enough that collectors may take the claim seriously, but far enough away that VW can change their plans completely if needs be. But since Bugatti can only sell so many Veyrons, and there are only so many Fifth Avenue designers to stamp their logo on a "version" of the car, it seems reasonable that they'd have to do something else. But what? A targa– sorry, removable panel roof? A four-door sedan? A 2000 horsepower coupe? When your modus operandi is "ridiculous," it's hard to follow that up as being "even more ridiculous." And don't forget, Volkswagen also has Bentley and Lamborghini in the wheelhouse. Decisions, decisions. I know! What about killing the brand?

* Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport in Sardinia

Production start for the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport
Media and customers complete first test drives

Cannes , May 2009 - Last year's Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance in California was the setting for the very first public presentation of the new Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport. The response was extremely positive and now production of this roadster – limited to 150 units – is to begin at Molsheim. At the same time, the media and customers are taking their first test drives.

The new Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport confronted the marque renowned for impeccable automotive solutions, aesthetics and driving dynamics with a whole new set of challenges. In response to customer demand, significant modifications have been made to the vehicle's complex structure so as to enable open-top driving, thereby adding a new dimension to this high-performance Sports car Incorporating a host of new and innovative safety and equipment features, it is the world's fastest and most exciting roadster. It is immediately recognizable as a result of its slightly higher windscreen, stylized daytime running lights, and lightweight, transparent polycarbonate roof.

The main challenge in developing the new Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport with its removable roof resulted from the unique structure of the fixed-roof Bugatti Veyron. An optimum combination of rigidity and lightweight engineering ensures the monocoque passenger cell of the original model is extremely strong, while weighing an absolute minimum . As the roof is an integral part of the vehicle's structure, removing it meant the load paths had to be completely redesigned to maintain the vehicle's rigidity and crash safety, and to offer additional protection from side impacts and rolling.

As a result, the monocoque structure has been reinforced around the side skirts and the transmission tunnel. The B-pillars have been cross-stiffened using a carbon fibre support, and a central carbon plate has been positioned beneath the transmission tunnel to ensure the vehicle suffers from less torsional flexing
than any other roadster.

The car is finaly ready! Bugatti showed at that Geneve automobile salon 2005 the Veyron 16,4 for the first time like it left the prototype stage and like it will go on production in the end of this year. The extraordinary design of the EB 16,4 Veyron also appears in the interior and has numerous technology highlights.
There, luxury and sporty design elements form a tremendous and comfortable atmosphere in the interior. The design and arrangement of the operating elements are a resemblance to the historical Bugatti racing cars.
In close co-operation with the Bugatti design team , the optimal arrangement of the components has already been fixed during the development of the monocoques bodyshell in order to get the best possible of function and design.
The exciting EB 16,4 Veyron impresses by the use of racing technology and a daring design. The identification “Veyron” is to remind of the former Bugatti plant driver Pierre Veyron, who was able to win with a Bugatti the 24 hours of Le Mans in the year 1939. Default was to reflect the character and the myth of the brand Bugatti. The power of the engine reaches the wheels through a permanent all-wheel drive system, which guarantees a high traction.
The Veyron with a length of now 4.466 millimeters and a height of 1.206 millimeters is a flat super sports car which combines sensory and dynamic elements in the same way. The aluminum body, finished in two colors, has a very tasteful interior.
The car body made of aluminum reduces the weight to a minimum. Similar to the racing cars for the Formula One and Le Mans, the self-supporting body of the EB 16.4 is manufactured in carbon fiber technology.
The large 20 inch wheels with a front tire size of 245-690 R 520 A and a rear tire size of 335-710 R 540 A show clearly the high sporty requirements of the EB 16,4 Veyron. With the special tires developed by Michelin, the Bugatti can even be driven with all the air lost from the tire up to 200 kilometers at speeds up to 80 km/h and without the handling becoming unsafe.
A high-end sound system from the Berlin manufacturer of outstanding hi-fi systems, Dieter Burmester, creates a perfect audio spectrum in the interior.
The “super- Bugatti” is powered by a 16 cylinder engine, which is installed as a mid-engine ahead of the rear axle. The 8.0 liter engine in the W 16 design has two exceptionally narrow V8 cylinder blocks. For this reason it is a visual and unique product ! The engine is installed as a mid-engine and develops 1001 HP with its four turbocharges. It accelerates from a standstill to 300 km/h in less than 14.0 seconds and reaches a top speed of more than 400 km/h .
The engine with its 64 valves has 1001 HP; however a futur engine with 1200 HP is planned. Its maximum torque reaches enormous 1.250 newton-meters.
The 16 cylinders are visible and installed directly behind the two seats. They are conspicous because of the two silver colored intakes.
